Why does condensation form on windows?
When temperatures drop, beads of water can appear on the inside of window panes. In colder conditions, this moisture may even become a thin layer of frost. This can look alarming, especially because windows are expected to separate the indoor environment from cold weather outside. However, condensation on windows is not automatically proof that a window has failed or that its quality is poor.
The key issue is the temperature difference around the window and the movement of air in the room. Window glass can become a noticeably colder surface when outdoor temperatures fall. Moisture in the indoor air can then collect on that surface, making the condensation visible. Airflow also matters: where air does not circulate effectively around the window area, moisture can remain concentrated rather than dispersing.
A seasonal signal, not always a window defect
Condensation and frost on the inside of a window commonly become noticeable during colder weather. The important question is whether the moisture remains occasional or keeps returning.
A single episode of moisture during a cold period is different from recurring condensation that leaves the surrounding area persistently damp.
