Mould & heating: infrared technology
Heating and mould are closely connected because room temperature influences relative humidity. When heating is reduced to save energy, the same household moisture remains in cooler air and can create a more humid indoor environment. In winter, this becomes especially relevant: cold conditions combine with everyday moisture produced inside the home, while cold wall areas can become points where condensation forms.
Leaving rooms unheated may therefore increase the risk of damp-looking surfaces and mould growth. Raising the heating can help make a room feel warmer and can support more stable conditions, but it does not automatically remove moisture that has already entered a wall. This is the key distinction behind many questions about mould and heating: warm air may reduce the immediate condensation pressure, while a damp wall can remain a long-term source of the problem.
Heating can support a healthier indoor climate, but only dry walls remove the moisture basis that allows mould to return.
